The Love Song Concert in Jones Hall on July 15 was without a doubt the best concerts I have ever gone to see and hear Jones Hall has t be one of the nicest houses in the world in which to have a concert.
This was the first "rock" concert I am aware of that has been allowed in Jones Ball. Due to the situations that normally arise in concerts in the past in the Music Hall and in the Coliseum, Jones Hall has been out of the question for promoters to get any type of youth oriented music concert booked. I am really happy to see this concert come out in such a positive way.
The crowd was much like that of other concerts except they were a generally happier lot and seemed to . be a bit cleaner both inside and out. There seemed right from the start to be an entirely different attitude among the crowd. A fresh positive and beautiful spirit seemed to be. moving through the audience, not typical at all of the norm one would expect at this type of gathering. There was no trace of the negative downer mood which seems to inhabit most of the shows youth attend today. Another thing noticeably different was the total absence of the police. I assume there were some present in case of a fire or something but I never saw one the entire evening.

By show time the house was packed with people standing in all the doorways looking for seats. Ray Johnson came out and made a few announcements. There was the usual No- Smoking rule announcement, yet very few were smoking and I believe they all stopped when he asked them to, with no groans, or moans, or boos, or anything.
Then came one of the biggest surprises of the night. Alan Hubbard walked out and the show started with little or no todo, almost on time. I don't recall ever having been to a concert before that started on time. Alan seemed to be very well known by the audience with good reason for he is very talented. |
Rarely have I seen a crowd so well behaved. The Holy Spirit ministered through Alan in such a sweet and tender way that the audience was captivated from the very start, The people seemed to be at one with the performer. Although he was on stage, it offered no barrier as stages. with orchestra pits so often do, The mood of the situation was in such unison it is hard to capture and communicate it in words. No one moved at all. There was no talking or any rude disturbances. The music just flowed from Alan's guitar and voice. One received the impression that the microphone and PA. system were not needed. The only fault with Alan's performance was it was too short.
Then after another unbelievably short pause, the Love Song came out on stage and after spending minor time tuning up, started to play. Apart from being a group which plays music of the Jesus movement, they perform better live than any group of secular electric musicians I have ever seen. Their album is certainly tremendous but there are many good albums out by musicians who perform excellently in the studio. The problem is most of them aren't very good performing live and vice-versa. The Love Song is among the best at both. The Holy Spirit moved so peacefully through the music, it was really beautiful, Many came to know Jesus in a very real and personal way. The Spirit was so thick, there is no way to explain it except to say it was a tremendous blessing to my heart and I truly feel sorry for those who missed it.
